The Type 1 Diabetic Balancing Act

It’s been 9 months since my diagnosis.

I have been keeping a daily journal of my blood sugar results (umpteen readings per day). I have been recording the foods I have eaten (and the amounts) at what time of day I ate. I have kept an eye on the weather and its impact on my blood sugars. I have recorded my level of activity and the impact on my blood sugars. I have recorded events that happened on any given day and hoped to find a correlation with stress and my blood sugar levels.

And the end result of all of this record keeping?

I have come up with NO correlation between my blood sugars and any parameter above.

There is NO way of being able to say to myself, “Today will be hot/cold/humid so I better be very/not very active and eat this amount of these foods spread out at these times and inject this amount of insulin into me at these times and not get stressed/worried/harried/aggravated so I can keep my blood sugar within these upper and lower limits.”

I’ll be honest: it’s been a (pun intended) bloody test at times. And the end result of all of this was not the one I was hoping for.

Having said that, I HAVE become rather good at taking notes! I guess that counts for something.
